About Us

I am the mom part of the Bradley family, aka the Sattvic Family, as we strive to be as holistic and peaceful as possible.

I’m an unintentionally complex person, and normally very apologetic about it. I’m British American ( passport wise Brit) but consider Antibes, France home, as we began living half of every year there from the time I was 5 onward. Because of my father’s job, we traveled nonstop between Europe, Asia, and the Midwest of America, the latter of which was not a pleasant experience for me; the town that we were in was a hell hole that basically hated anyone who was not blond or ‘normal’. Cruelty was rampant, homophobia, racism, and all forms of bullying pervasive, but because of the town’s ‘charm'( aka bed and breakfasts and verdant parks) no one ever talks about this. It is an ignored issue, although I think it may change in years to come.

Due to a number of factors, I went to boarding school from age 12, first at Shattuck Saint Mary’s and then at the CIV in Sophia Antipolis. Some years I was an A student, some I failed 3 or more classes. At the end of the day, I feel I learned much more by reading, writing, traveling, and conversing with people. And even more then all those, by being kind. Kindness is the best teacher, I swear.

All of this has create a travel and food addict. I call myself a holistic gastronome, who eats a mainly vegan diet but sometimes has fish or organic dairy.

My love affair with writing began at age 10 or 11, and I was published for poetry a number of times. John Bellairs and various horror writers inspired me then and now, but my obsession with literature still reigns supreme, and Aldous Huxley is my favorite author. I normally write horror, dark fantasy, or philosophical essays, although I am working on self publishing a book about how we live and unschool.

I’m also an aesthete, philomath, Vedantist, and MAJOR gamer, as well as an interfaith minister working on my doctorate.

My better half is ‘holistic dad’, an actor and amazing father. Our 3 year old unvaccinated and unschooled daughter Kaya Alaqua is a very intense child, sensitive and compassionate. We have two cats and our pom Miki Takemura.

We currently live in Phuket, Thailand. Before that, Cortona Italy. Before that, Paju South Korea. We get around a lot.

This blog chronicles our journeys as a holistic unschooling family traveling the world. We are artists, so it also has some obscure stuff as well.

Enjoy! πŸ™‚

Phuket, nice. We talked on Twitter, didnt we?

We plan to get to Thailand. We are kind of torn though. Do we go home for vacay or do we explore the world? Obviously our family and friends and even our children want us to go home…but I want them to see the WORLD. We are RIGHT HERE. Hard choices.

Wow! You and yours are certainly more than just Gamers! …aren’t we all.

I think my wife will be quite fascinated by your blog. She is an artist (painter) and stay-at-home mother. Thx for following me on the twitter!

Now you just have to bring your gaming blog onto WordPress. πŸ˜‰

I stumbled onto your blog and just want to share how inspired I am by your family! My son was conceived three years ago in Thailand, and I have been longing to return to SE Asia since. We had serene homebirths with both of our children (the last just a month ago) and as I hold my newborn in my arms I am beginning to dream of nomadic life. I long to spend my days with my children and be free from all the stress of our lives here. Would you believe that both my husband and I are public school teachers? Perhaps that is why we are so keen on unschooling – we see the schools from the inside and know how imperfect they truly are. We also attend the Vedanta temple by our house, though I can’t say we are Vedantists as we just found them.

    • WOW! I was just writing on your other comment that you should check out Vedanta, and now I read that you go to the temple! Wonderful! Well I think personally that almost anyone who is deep in spirituality is a Vedantist. Since they don’t really ask for money and respect all religions, they are really unique.
You and your family should come on out here to Phuket and teach English, if you have the travel bug! There are many ESL schools here, and some are private so the work hours are better. It is also great to teach privately here, so you can create your own hours as opposed to having a 9 to 5.
I would love to know more about your experiences in the public school system!! πŸ™‚
Blessings to you and your fam!!!

Hi, my name is Dawn and I’m an aspiring mystery writer(I’ve had a couple of things published, but not anything major). I’m doing some research for a novel involving European and Asian travel. Jordan Parise kindly answered some questions. He suggested your blog which I found very interesting and impressive. I was wondering if you would be willing to answer some questions for me. Unfortunately, I only managed one trip abroad and that was in 1997, so I’m stepping out of my comfort zone with this idea. In the area where I live in the US, very few people leave the country and I’m trying to get a feel for what it would be like to live in other countries and experience other cultures which is what I have in mind for one of my main characters. Thanks so much for your time.
